Residential units rehabilitaton work

The project entailed the rehabilitation and maintenance of a large area of a historical complex inside the Old City of Jerusalem. Rehabilitation works by the Custody of the Holy Land included the rehabilitation of a vacant decayed and deserted space on the ground floor of the building complex with 40 residential units and 5 courtyards on the upper floors. The Rehabilitation works addressed various aspects and stages of decay such as structural instability, unsafe electrical and dysfunctional mechanical installations, humidity, inadequate lighting and access difficulties, especially for the elderly. Meanwhile, the historical character of the complex and the houses will has been preserved. The current residents of the complex enjoy well maintained, hazard free houses that suite their needs. In addition, the resident families enjoy a good provision of open space that accommodates private courtyards, domestic gardens of indigenous Palestinian local character, social and seasonal events. The project provided the residents of the complex a better living environment through eliminating the risk factors resulting from living in deteriorated buildings.
